Christ University Website Hacked!!!

This is what we got as an Independence Day Gift from Paki Hackers. The Defaced website of christ? Yes, it is being discussed all over Christites on Facebook. As a former Christite, I don't appreciate this kind of act but just can hope that every thing gets restored to its old state and the website security gets tightened.
NOTE: This might not work after a few hours as google caching gets updated.

New Windows 7 hack purports to be "unfixable"

A hack that's "unfixable" is a pretty bold claim, but that's just what researchers Vipin Kumar and Nitin Kumar have announced at the now-happening Hack in the Box security conference, and they seem ready to back it up. Apparently, they've devised a means to gain control of a Windows 7 computer during the boot up process though the use of a tiny 3KB program dubbed VBootkit 2.0 (a follow-up to a similar Vista hack), which loads itself into the system memory and bypasses the hard drive altogether, making it extremely difficult to detect. Once loaded, an ill-intentioned individual could potentially change passwords, access protected files, or do just about anything else and then leave without a trace. The one fairly big drawback to the hack, however, and upside for most users, is that it can't be performed remotely, so it'll likely only be a significant concern for businesses or other folks using computers in public places -- unless, of course, Microsoft finds a way to fix the "unfixable."

Palm Pre stock levels at Best Buy for entire US now leaked in full?

We'll be straight with you, we have no idea if the linked document (that builds on the original) is authentic or not. Then again, why would someone go to the trouble of faking a 31 page PDF file showing Palm Pre inventories for every Best Buy in the US and Puerto Rico -- the internet just can't be so sad. Anyway, given the positive reviews received, we expected demand to outstrip the meager inventories on-hand at launch. As we figure it, anything that might help you sort out the mess on Saturday will be appreciated.

As the 3G iPhone draws near, what's your plan of attack?

And so forth. If you're like many of us, you very well could be weighing your options as the 3G iPhone seems increasingly imminent. Some might have a wad of cash already laid aside, others might be thinking of jumping ship to one of the iPhone's numerous competitors, or just getting some more months of utility out of their current iPhone. And then there's the trouble of disposing of your existing iPhone when you do upgrade. Do you give it to a friend, mount it on the wall, or bury it in the backyard with the hope of growing it into a cute little iPhone tree? The options are endless. Let us know which way you're leaning.

xpPhone runs Windows XP, gets costumed as a MID

You see, the name "xpPhone" is rather disingenuous here. At first glance, you may assume that you're about to discover what's likely the planet's first cellular telephone to run a full-fledged version of Windows XP. Sadly, we've got to slot the device shown above squarely into the MID category -- GSM support be darned. Still, we can't help but applaud the engineering efforts; after all, this thing somehow packs an AMD CPU, 1GB of RAM, a 64GB SSD, 4.8-inch 800 x 480 touchpanel, WiFi, various cell radios, a 1.3 megapixel camera and a battery good for five solid hours of use into a device barely larger than the average, yawn-inducing MID found in every last corner of Computex. In fact, it's so impressive that we're beginning to question its authenticity as a real, working product. Much like the number of licks to the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know.

Palm Pres available tonight to invited Premier customers at launch events

This won't apply to many of you, but just a little public service announcement to members of Sprint's elite Premier corps: you can get your Pre tonight if you've received an invitation to do so and you're willing to make the trek to one of ten stores around the country where launch parties are being held. Our understanding is that this is strictly an invite-only event and that non-Premier riff raff (and non-Sprint customers) will be turned away, but honestly, if we were in the market for a Pre, we'd probably loiter for a bit just to see what's up and get a gauge on whether they're willing to bend the rules -- particularly if the Pres end up not selling out by the time the night's over. Either way, if you want a Pre this weekend you'll need to leave your basement at some point because the phone won't be sold online initially -- so let us know how it goes out there in the trenches, folks, and we'll do the same. Stay tuned!

Paid Apps Coming to Android Market
Google has welcomed paid application from developers in US and UK initially. Developers can submit their applications on the Android Market and charge a fee for users to download and install the app on their Android based mobile phones. Initially the applications would be available to users in the US by the end of next week. Additional countries will be supported later on. Google Checkout will be the payment gateway for these paid apps.
Will the Android Market for paid apps be as successful as Apple’s? We’ll have to wait and watch!

Download Videos from YouTube!
Till now people have used several hacks for downloading videos from YouTube. Now users can download YouTube videos without any of those hacks. YouTube now lets you download some videos free of cost in Mp4 format.
Here’s how you can download a video from YouTube;
1. Search the video you’d like to download.
2. You’ll see a download link under the video’s play bar on the left hand corner. Click on it and you’ll see a Download information bar such as this one below.
3. Click the Download button and your download will start in a moment.
Currently the downloading options are a test for certain US partners. Hopefully the video downloads would be widely available soon.
Not all videos are available for free downloads. However you can purchase some videos if you wish to download them. Once you click on Download Video for these, you’ll be redirected to the Google Checkout payment processing page where you must pay a specific fee before downloading the video from YouTube.

Undo Send Mail in Gmail
Gmail will now let you perform an undo operation on the send mail function. So if you happen to send a mail and realized you missed something after clicking the send button, there’s a way out. Gmail will now give you five seconds to make up your mind i.e it’ll hold on to your mail for 5 seconds and if you don’t press the undo button it will send your mail.
To start using this feature you need to visit the Settings page and then go to the Gmail Labs page and turn on Undo Mail. Now this feature won’t undo all your pain. You won’t be able to pull off the undo function on mails which have already been sent.
That brings me to a question. Why not? Why not just pull an e-mail back even after it has already been sent and remains unread by the recipient?!

How To Install Google Chrome 2.0 Beta
Google recently released the Beta version of it’s web browser Google Chrome. Most of the people are facing a problem while installing Google Chrome 2.0 Beta. The problem is that once you download Chrome using the link on Google’s website it simply downloads the older stable version of the web browser instead of 2.0 beta edition. I have faced the same problem, so here’s the solution.
Google Chrome now comes in three editions. One is the stable edition, the other two are beta and developer versions. You need another program to switch your browser to a different edition.
Here is how you can install Google Chrome 2.0 Beta on your system.
1. If you already have Google Chrome installed on your system then you don’t need to download the entire program all over again. In case you don’t have Google Chrome, not even the stable release, on your computer, download it first.
2. Click here and download the Google Chrome Channel Changer 2.0. It’s 100 KB and it’ll enable you to switch your edition of Google Chrome to the beta version.

3. Once you have downloaded Google Chrome Channel Changer 2.0, open the program. Select the Beta version or the Developer version and click on Update. I’ll recommend you use the Beta version for a stable edition of the browser.
4. Now open Google Chrome and go to the About Google Chrome option from the settings menu. Click on the update link that will appear on this window. It’ll update your Google Chrome to Google Chrome 2.0 Beta.

In case you don’t see any update link or you don’t find that you have been switched to the beta version, wait for sometime, leave the browser on for 5-10 minutes and check again. The auto-update program should update the program for you.
I hope this resolves the issue for many of us. In case you face any further problems, feel free to post them using the comments section below.

Google Adsense Payments in India

Google Adsense payments were earlier sent using standard mail services through India Post. It’s only now that Adsense payments in India are being sent using the Blue Dart courier service. I remember I received my last checkfrom Google earlier this month which was delivered using Blue Dart. Of course there are no extra charges attached.
It’s great to know that Google Adsense payment cheques are now being sent using a premier courier services. The delivery will now be much faster and safer. As per the Adsense website all checks should arrive within 10-30 days of the check date.
You can also track your checks using a tracker id which will be provided to you within 15th of every month. You can track your payments on the Blue Dart website. However Blue Dart doesn’t ship to all parts of the country. So those places would still need to carry on with the registered mail.

Some interesting Google Insights results!
So I had a lot of free time and decided to check out some interesting analytics from Google Insights.
Here is what all I came across:

So Pakistan tops the list! Whoa!

Kenya is more curious followed by Trinidad and Tobago. Where are the Indians?

Only a bunch of freaks from US are interested in this one!

Here come the Indians. We’re more scared of the recession. We love our money folks!

10 Most Useful features from Gmail Labs
Offline Gmail
Now here’s something very useful. Remember those times when you typed a long e-mail and just when you clicked on the send button, you lost the connection. Well Offline Gmail now lets you work on your mail in the offline mode and once you’re connected, your mail is sent. Neat, effective and relevant.
Inserting images
This is one of the most recent additions to Gmail labs. Now you no longer need to rely on crazy workarounds to insert images within your messages. This neat feature lets you insert images seamlessly within your e-mails.
Superstars
Stars in Gmail let me distinguish important mail from the rest of the junk. Superstars lets me prioritize the starred mail so I know where to go first.
Custom keyboard shortcuts
Keyboard shortcuts help save time. Having custom keyboard shortcuts is the cherry on the cake. It’s heaven for people like me who find it hard to get used to shortcuts someone else defines for me. I’ll be my own boss!
Mouse Gestures
This feature kind of gives me the impression that we’re just a few steps away from a mail slave kind of an e-mail client where we could just blink our eyes and tell the client to read out the mail, go to the next conversation and so on. Mouse gestures lets you navigate through your mails using pre-defined mouse gestures.
Old Snakey
Bored of mails? Sick of spam? Here’s a little old-school game right inside Gmail. Play Old Snakey and hit boredom right on the face.
Advanced IMAP Controls
Choose labels you want to show off, turn on and off a lot of extra features. Very useful.
Mail Goggles
I found it inappropriate the very first time I heard about it. Now I keep this to safeguard myself against mood swings. Very useful in case you’re committed to work or a partner.
Multiple Inboxes
It’s like having multiple girlfriends. Even if you can’t afford multiple partners in real life, enjoy multiple free inboxes within Gmail. Organize your email more efficiently.
Add any gadget by URL
Now this is infinity. Enables you to add any gadget by entering it’s URL. Neat.

DIY: Hack and unlock your T-Mobile G1 into an Android Dev Phone 1!
Just the other day, Google announced that it will be offering its Android developers a special variant of the T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) G1 (the first ever Android-powered smartphone to hit market) - the Android Dev Phone 1. Today, we’ve stumbled across a new hack that allows T-Mobile
The Android Dev Phone 1 is intended for Android developers with a need to load up custom firmware builds and test out unsigned software.
Fortunately for G1 owners, Google (NSDQ: GOOG) mistakenly shipped an Android Dev Phone 1 as a warranty replacement to an intrepid Android hacker. With a little help from those in the know, dream_kill managed to extract the Android Dev Phone 1’s unlocked bootloader and has posted the file online for all. Now, anyone can unlock their T-Mobile G1 to work just like an Android Dev Phone 1.
The G1-to-DevPhone1 conversion is easier than you think. The conversion requires little more than applying the update.zip file and rebooting the G1. In the end, you’ll have an unlocked G1 capable of running unsigned code. Unfortunately, this hack doesn’t endow your G1 with the Android Dev Phone 1’s cool battery-cover graphics.
More detailed T-Mobile G1 unlock instructions after the jump.
- You’ll need an Android-powered T-Mobile G1 running RC30 with root access - that means you updated your G1 to RC30 using this workaround method to preserve root access.
- You must have root access!
- Download the unlocked bootloader here.
- Rename the unlocked bootloader file to “update.zip”
- Move the newly renamed “update.zip” file to a microSD card.
- Insert microSD card into G1.
- Restart the handset by holding down the “Power” and “Home” buttons simultaneously
- When you see the triangle logo (you’ll know it when you see it), hold press “Alt” and “L” simultaneously
- Ensure that you see “using test keys” along the top
- Press “Alt” and “S” simultaneously
- Follow the on-screen instructions
- Press “Home” and “Back” buttons simultaneously when you’re done and ready to reboot
- The G1 will reboot as it does its thing - let it do so.
- You have now hacked/unlocked your T-Mobile G1 to work just like an Android Dev Phone 1 - enjoy all those unsigned Android builds and the freedom to use whatever GSM network tickles your fancy!

Palm Pre dual-boot with Android hack?
The Palm Pre isn’t even in users’ hands yet, but already there’s work afoot to Jailbreak the smartphone and load alternative mobile platforms onto it. High on the list of potential OS candidates is Google’s open-source Android, and thanks to some sleuthing around the Texas Instruments OMAP34x SDK it looks like it’s one step closer to feasibility. The route to replacing webOS with Android starts with porting the new OS to the OMAP 3 system, then requires two-stage bootloading before, some further tinkering down the line, you end up with a Pre that’s dual-bootable into both webOS and Android.
In fact Android has already been ported to OMAP 3, by the OmapZoom team. To get around the Pre’s lack of microSD card slot - as the T-Mobile G1 is bootloaded via memory card - the suggestion is that the smartphone’s support for USB Mass Storage mode could allow hackers to place the Android OS in the user storage section, and merely point the initial bootloader to those files.
All this will require a serial over USB driver to access the Palm Pre’s bootloader and Linux core; you can guarantee that such a project will be a key priority when the Pre finally launches. Not only would it allow for dual-booting or alternative operating systems, but native software such as has been written for the iPhone and iPhone 3G. Alternatively, you could even load an instance of Android within webOS.

China: Where Patience Meets Speed
As readers know, I’m working on a new book about global entrepreneurship that is taking me around the world at the pace of roughly one country per month for the next year and a half. The plan is to focus on several contrasting hot spots for entrepreneurship and revisit them throughout the next year or so to see how the entrepreneurs and economies evolve over that time.
But since it’s early in the process, I’m still hitting many places for the first time, and it’s a challenge. I’m continually throwing myself into a culture and trying to absorb as much as I can from being on the ground, meeting with hundreds of entrepreneurs, and trying to ferret out some TechCrunch-worthy and book-worthy stories. Two-to-three weeks can go past in the blink of an eye, and frequently I leave with more questions than answers. More maddening: That’s usually a sign I’ve done my job. No place should be decipherable in two weeks. Especially not China.
China has just exploded with entrepreneurship, funding and economic opportunity over the last five years or so, and unlike most of the world there doesn’t seem to be a slow down yet. In 2002, U.S. investors pumped $437 million into China. By 2007 that had grown to $2.8 billion. And last year, it swelled again to $4.2 billion. All numbers courtesy of Dow Jones/VentureSource which should be releasing its first quarter China figures this week. Imagine Silicon Valley in 1999 times a huge sprawling country and population, and that’s what I’m wading into for the next two weeks.
On one hand, it’s exhilarating. In the US, we’ve all heard so much about the amazing Chinese economic engine, looking on with a mix of terror, greed and awe. It’s stunning actually to be on the ground here. But sifting through hundreds- even thousands- of Mandarin-speaking entrepreneurs is also a bit like trying to do an estate sale for Howard Hughes. There are priceless old films, keepsakes from starlets and antique aviator equipment, but also stacks of milk bottles, newspapers and nail clippings—where do you start?
This mild panic I’m finding myself in has me thinking a great deal about two characteristics of China that people have been referencing in the last few weeks as I’ve been planning this trip and doing pre-interviews: Patience and speed. They’re seemingly contradictory, and perhaps part of that is the collision of tradition and modernity in China right now.
It’s important to realize that patience isn’t the same thing as being slow. It’s a mindset thing, not a factor of how fast you are moving. The Chinese people have always known they’d be one of the world’s major superpowers, known it with such conviction; they just had to let it unfold. And unfold it has. Even Internet entrepreneurs share this view, as Jack Ma of Alibaba said in this 2000 Forbes interview
, “One must run as fast as a rabbit, but be as patient as a turtle.” Interestingly, Ma picks the good attributes of each animal: The speed of the rabbit but not the impatience and cockiness. And the patience of the tortoise but not the slow speed. (One could argue those are traits of large, fat and happy American multi-nationals that both Chinese and Silicon Valley startups seek to out-do.) Ma has also said that employees and customers come first, shareholders second. Why? They’re incapable of holding a long term view and he refuses to run his business quarter-to-quarter. For Ma, ten years is a short time. For U.S. investors—even VCs—ten years is a long-term investment horizon.
What many U.S. investors find baffling is how that patient mindset co-exists in a world that moves so quickly. Last night I had dinner with several ex-patriot entrepreneurs who said it’d be hard to leave Shanghai now because the speed with which the city runs has become addictive. Every few weeks there are new buildings. The restaurants open and close so quickly, one of the ex-pats says he calls a restaurant before he leaves the house, not to make reservations but to make sure its still there. Another laughed at the idea that he used to think Manhattan was fast-paced. He goes back to visit now, and it all seems the same.
I’m not even 24-hours into my adventure in China, but I’m interested to learn more about how these two traits manifest themselves in the startup world here. Already, I’m hearing about a distaste for raising U.S. money because of an insistence on predictable and unnatural growth metrics. My guess is the successful investors will be the ones that yield to the Chinese way of thinking on this, not the reverse. Indeed, a short-term nature of investing is a big part of why our capital markets are broken, and over the last few decades as Wall Street funds and endowments have become the main backers of VCs, that short-term-thinking disease has spread into what used to be a risky but patient asset-class.

FavIcon Generator
I was just taking a look around digg.com and found a handy wee tool to generate FavIcons. I’m a big fan of these, they’re a nice finishing touch to a well designed website.
I’ve been using IconEdit Pro, v6 and it does the job well, although I note from the site that they’re up to v7+.
So, I trialled this online version and was very impressed.
It even comes with the snippet of code to put on your pages. Ofcourse if you’re using Mambo or any other content management system it would pay to check where the existing FavIcon is sitting and just replace the file. Most of them come with one.

Chat With Strangers Online - Talk to Strangers to Pass Time
People sometimes get bored to do repeated jobs and work on the same routine. Chatting with friends also makes you feel it as boredom, but to kill such useless idle time, I have come up with few chat to strangers kind of service where you don’t need to disclose your identity and still chat with strangers and pass time. You will start loving these services once you get addicted into using them. But be careful, they really eat up all your time. If you get addicted, its like stumbleupon which kills all your time.

Omegle: Talk to strangers
With the tag line Talk to strangers! it serves the same purpose. The time I tested was night in US, even at such off peak time, I found around 1500 users who are interested to chat with strangers. And at any point of time, you will be connected with only one person, so there is no chance of having a conference or getting disturbed. If you don’t feel the person interesting, you can simply disconnect from him and you will be redirected to some other stranger. You can also use this on AIM.
22talk : Talk to Random People
This, I guess is a brand new service looking at its alexa stats. For such time wasters, its very easy to climb in traffic. The speciality of this is that it supports many languages and you can change your nickname. Apart from these special features, both have cool interface with speedy connectivity. Also here, you can switch to another random stranger to chat. I really liked this service and may be KillerStartUps would be interested in reviewing the same if they find it worth.
Now, if you want to waste time talking to strangers online, you can use these services. Please share if you have any other.
You can also take advantage of this to sell your or affiliate product or promote websites etc. Disadvantages with these service is that there would be no control over spam as both of them do not need any sign ups or so.

Last.fm Hack to Play Media When Free Trial Expired
Almost every internet freak who is interested in music, audio or listening to free online radiois mostly aware of Last.fm. Last.fm is a free online radio with loads of music and was free for a long time. Recently they announced that users outside US, UK and Germany need to pay a subscription fee of $3 to listen to online radio. This is a bad news for music lovers online and here I have provided a way to hack last.fm.
If you love their service, please subscribe them by paying. If you are a new user, you may use this way to test their service, and if you love it, please purchase. To make it clear, this is not a hack, but I am making use of an available feature in order to clear the blocked way of accessing the free service.
Pick an anonymous proxy server from US / UK / Germany [these are the locations where last.fm is free now] from this proxy list. Note that this is not same as twitter proxy.
Open Last.fm client. Tools > Options > Connection.
Now, choose the manual setting and paste the proxy detail from the list.

Done. You are now anonymising yourself as a user from that country and hence the last.fm servers serve you with free online internet radio.
Note: This tutorial is for education purpose, please purchase if you are not included in freeregion. Alternatively you may use free internet radio with winamp.

100 Google Adsense Tips 4
If you blog, Darren has some tips for you.
Inside AdSense is official AdSense blog, where you can find latest developments about AdSense.
You can get help of other AdSense pulishers at AdSense Help Group.
If you are serious about making money from AdSense, get Joel’s AdSense Secrets.
Don’t put too many ad blocks on your site. Find out the highest CTR block and remove the others. Few clicks on the 1$ ads are better than many clicks on the 3-cent-ads.
Experiment, experiment, and experiment. You can never stop trying for new ad format. Even if you think you can’t improve anymore, one slight change might increase your earning significantly.
Remove the “Advertise on this site” from your AdSense block until your site is big enough to attract real advertisers. This will help to clear off many MFA (made-for-adsense) sites. You can disable it from AdSense account setting.
Use AdSense Preview Tool to test the ads that will appear on your site. You can click on ads in the AdSense preview tool, as the advertisers are not charged from it.
AdSense uses geo-location to deliver advertisement. So, what you see on your site might not be what your visitors see. Use AdSense Preview Tool to view your AdSense advertisement displayed for visitors from other places.
Use AdSense Competitive Ads Filter to remove scrapper sites ads. Scrapper sites are sites without real content. They are either link farms, content theft, or meta search engine.
Use AdSense Competitive Ads Filter to remove irrelevant ads.
AdsBlackList.com have good list of URLs to block. Try it.
Try variations of AdSense colors, format, position on different pages to make it more unpredictable for your visitors.
Learn some CSS.
If you are putting multiple ads block on your website: put most clicked block to appear first in the HTML. Higher position in HTML = higher paying ads. You can do this using CSS.
Try to put contents on different subject topics. If it can draw visitors, write more on that topic.
If you have dynamic pages, use htaccess rewrite rule to make it appear as static, e.g. http://www.hundredtips.com/100-google-adsense-tips.html instead of http://www.hundredtips.com/?p=6.
Validate your site HTML and CSS.
Break your long articles to few short articles; this way the users are exposed to the ads for more times.
Keep each article focused on one topic.

100 Google Adsense Tips 5
Watch your statistics and pay attention to articles that bring in visitors.
Write more articles within the subject that attract visitors.
Web-savvy visitors are less inclined to click on ads.
Have patience. You need time to build the traffic, and to optimize it.
Think long-term. Analise what your visitors need, provide value and good experience to visitors.
Consider buying websites. If you do it right, you can get back your investment in a relatively short time.
Watch your AdSense earning. Notify AdSense Team if you find anything suspicious. Your competitors might try to sabotage your account, or your well-meaning friend keep on clicking on the ads thinking they are helping you.
Use Google AdSense section targeting to help AdSense deliver more relevant ads.
Use AdSense Alternate Ads in case if AdSense can’t find any relevant ads.
Use rotating color ads. It keeps your visitors from getting AdSense blind.
Try other contextual advertising networks too. Yahoo Publisher Network is still in beta and only available in U.S., or you can try Clicksor, Bidvertising, etc. Just make sure you don’t put the on the same page with the AdSense.
You can put your clickbank, amazon, or other affiliate links on the same page with AdSense. You can also put other advertising network, so long as it is not contextual ads. Try Chitika, and disable the contextual ads option.
If you don’t follow the Terms and Conditions, your AdSense account will be disabled and you’ll get banned for life.
If you didn’t do anything wrong and your AdSense account is disabled: write them a polite and professional email, be patient and be persistent. Offer them your server logs to prove your innocence.
Spread the links to your website: put it on your email signature, put comment on blogs, participate in your niche forums.
Promote your articles in social bookmarking sites: del.icio.us, digg, reddit are good start.
Provide Email a Friend option to visitors.
Familiarize yourself with AdSense earning report. It can help you determine where your money is from, and optimize accordingly.

100 Google Adsense Tips 2
Consider signing-up for AdWords and create a mini campaign. It can help you to understand the working of AdSense.
Put your targeted-keyword on Page Title.
Repeat the keywords in your content.
Learn HTML.
Put emphasis around your keywords by using HTML tags like
…
,…
, …, …, e.g. AdSense Tips .Get domain name that contains your targeted keyword.
Submit your website to directories for inclusion, e.g. dmoz.org, yahoo directories
Submit your URL to search engines for crawling.
Create and submit your sitemaps to Google Sitemap (sitemap.xml) and Yahoo (urllist.txt)
Google is not the only search engine. Optimize for different engines as well. You are very likely to face less competition than in Google.
Invest for original fresh content. Write or pay for contents regularly.
Use copyscape.com to find content theft. You invest for your content. Don’t let it be taken by unscrupulous webmasters.
Article marketing is one of the best way to deliver traffic to your site. Write and submit articles to article-submission sites. Include short summary and hyperlinks to your website in the author information box.
Don’t use objectionable methods to draw visitors to your site; buying traffics, spyware, hidden-texts, page cloaking etc will get your AdSense account terminated.
New visitors have higher chance to click on the ads than regular visitors, thus higher CTR (click-through rate).
Regular visitors have higher chance to recommend your site to others.
